Malibu Soaked by Unusually Early Rainstorm

Rain began throughout much of Malibu just before 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

In some areas, heavy rain continued unabated for eight hours and resumed intermittently.

The classic “winter” storm was a unusual phenomenon for so early in autumn and is being touted as a record-making incident.

Whether the rain will have a measurable effect on what has traditionally been Malibu’s most serious wildfire season will depend on future weather conditions.

The community’s unusual spring, summer, and now autumn weather patterns are being attributed by many meteorologists to a La Niña influence.
